Will this recipe work for turkey neck bones and if not do you have a separate recipe for those?
Yes. You can use turkey neck bones .
Should I still use the apple cider vinegar for turkey neck bones?
Yes. It would be the same recipe.
Hey love, while I never thought of turkey neck bones, are they good I always had pork
Yes, just less meat 🙂
I’ll definitely be trying this recipe!
Awesome! Thanks for coming by!
my neck bones are already smoked would I follow theses same directions?
No. Smoked Neckbones already have salt & etc…
Can I use a substitute for the cornstarch?
Hi there! for best results stick to the recipe 🙂
You can use arrowroot powder or tapioca starch to substitute the corn starch. Hope that helps.
For best results, stick to the recipe listed.
I used ground flax instead of cornstarch for a lower carb option. My husband liked it very much and my 13 yr old asked for seconds so I guess it worked.
Hi Rosie, I’m using smoke neck bones as well, so would I just omit the salt and vinegar?
I don’t suggest using smoked neck bones for this recipe.
I didn’t know the recipe was for non smoked. I used smoked and they turned out amazing!!!
I look forward io trying this soon!
This is awesome! I’ve only used pork neck bones in my mom’s recipe for scrapple (a longtime family favorite). My husband once asked me what else they’re used for, and I told him I had no clue. This was an AHA moment for me!
I’ll be checking out your other recipes. Thank you!
LOL! Yes! I actually have a couple neck bone recipe. I should upload more!
Yes, PLEASE! 🙂
I’ve tried to fix pork neck bones several times but they Never come out right. I guess I cook them tooo long to where the meat fall off the bones but I have to cause them don’t look completely cooked. Could you please tell what I’m doing wrong? Should I soak them in vinegar for awhile first?
I couldn’t tell ya. Have you tried following this recipe step by step?
Right on time! I can’t wait to start back up cooking; this summer has been brutally hot! But its about time for fall recipes and this right here…yaaaaaasss hunty! With some cabbage and cornbread 🙂
Yes ma’am!!! You got me hungry as heck now! HAHA
cant wait to try this tonight
Thank you so much for all your recipes
Thank YOU for coming by! XOXO
Going to try this recipe today,Looks Great
Turned out great when I made this the first time, will be making again soon.
Awesome. Thanks for giving it a try.
Ms. Rosie, I have tried several of your recipes and LOVE them. I noticed that you have alot of recipes to cook in the crockpot but on the high setting. I usually cook my food in the crockpot on low since I am at work. Can you please give times for cooking them on low? Thank you so much
Yes, I will work on giving more Crock-Pot recipes on low settings! XOXO
Hello Rosie!!!! I’ll be trying more of your recipes. These neckbones look AMAZING!!!
Hi Rosie…I love your recipes and have been wanting to try the neckbones. Could you please tell me if they are fatty???? I have a fatty liver an try not to eat meat with a lot of fat. These look so delicious I am wanting to cook them so bad. Thanks for your time in advance!
Hi Laverne. Yes, they are on the fattier side. 🙂
If I could fix the pin on this I would. It uses the picture of mashed potatoes to save the pin. I made this for dinner tonight but took the meat off the bones and added it back to the gravy. It’s delicious!!
Can you use this same recipe if cooking on the stove (or in the oven)and if so, how long would you cook them on the stove or in the oven and at what setting/temp? Thanks
Yes. The same recipe can be used on the stove top. Cook on med for 1 hour 30 minutes .
These were the best neckbones that I have eaten in my life. That’s saying something as I am a senior citizen. I had sworn off of them because I don’t want to work to get my meat off the bone. Well, no problem here. Stick the fork to the bone and the meat falls off! The bones even separated. I followed the recipe, but I did cook them for five hours as I had a bit more than four pounds. I had cabbage and mashed potatoes and with the gravy, I was in food heaven. This recipe is definitely a keeper.
Hi Barbara! Glad that you liked the recipe!
I can’t wait to try Ur recipe…. It looks and sounds delicious
I’m trying this today. All your food looks delicious. I was wondering are there any soul food recipes that are on the lower fat side. I love soul food but would a lighter version.
Hi Cass! I have some low fat, low sodium, and even vegan soul food recipes coming in 2017. XOXO
Put these on at 1030 and we were enjoying these at 330. Had a little over 4lbs so cooked a little longer. Awesome recipe …thank you for sharing!
Hey, Rosie im making your neckbones today with chilli beans over rice and corn bread. I can’t wait to try these out.I haven’t made neck bones in a few years so i was glad to come across your recipe. I’ll be back with the results.
Awesome recipe! I’ve made neckbones before on the stove but with my schedule I love using the crockpot! Going to be serving with butterbeans and rice 🙂
Hello Rosie,
My husband has ask me to cook Neck bone for the past 3 1/2 we have been married. His Mom fixes them but they are very bland and not seasoned at all! I’m making these today and I am sure they will WOW him!! He loves soul food, we both grew up eating it. I LOVE to cook and cook often but have never cooked neck bone, so this will be my first. I am fixing dried lg lima beans, turnip greens, and mashed potatoes and corn bread!!! Can’t wait!! Thanks again for sharing!
Your dinner sounds delicious. Enjoy the recipe! XOXo
Hello Rosie,
I will be trying your recipe today, however when you were asked about the neck bones being smoked it wasn’t clear what to do, are you saying just slow cook without adding any ingredients?
I personally wouldn’t use them for this recipe. If you’re interested in a smoked neck bone recipe try this one.
Hi Rosie! I’m about to make this. I’m wondering how the skimming is avoided? Whenever, I have made them on the stovetop I’ve had to skim the foam off.
Clean the neck bones well, and skin when needed 🙂
Hi Rosie,
I have wanted to try making neck bones for some time now.
I found you and your recipe (on youtube) and can’t wait to give it a try.
A lot of the recipes I found called for boiling the neckbones first,
what is the purpose of this and is it nescessary for this dish?
Thanks again, Lynn
The necessary steps for this recipe are listed.
Hi Rosie, Just wondering if you use flour instead of corn starch? Usually don’t kee too much cornstarch on hand.
Yes, you can use flour.
Looking forward to trying for tonight’s dinner.
I didn’t get to do this yesterday but will today. But I do have a question? Can I use flour instead of corn starch?
Yes you can use flour instead.
Hi Rosie, can you use beef neck bones instead of the pork?
I haven’t tried beef neck bones with this recipe. I think it should be fine, but you might need to cook it longer.
Hi Rosie, I have my neck bones in the crock pot now and can’t wait to try them
I’ve never eaten or tried to cook neckbones in my life. Ive been in a relationship for 2 years with someone who loves them. I decided to take the plunge and try this recipe. It came out amazing. thank you so much. I cant wait to try other recipies from your site.
Thanks for trying my recipe Christy!
Hi Rosie, could I use pork belly?
Hi Heather. I actually never tried pork bely with this recipe.
Rosie, I just had to write and tell you how many times your website has rescued me! Long story short, I’m in my 40’s and pretty much just started actually cooking two years ago. Sad to say, but I and my older sister would go to our parents house several times a week (and we’d take home leftovers too!) My father passed and my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia and I had to move in to take care of her. Being from Louisiana, my mother – and sister who still comes over – have a specific level of expectation in their meals and I was woefully unprepared to fill it. And then I found you…
I have used your receipes for everything from everyday meals to Holidays (I think Christmas 2016 menu was ALL you). I have your YouTube videos on speed dial! So thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping this old dog learn some very needed new tricks!
Yvonne
OMG, Yvonne! Thank YOU for sharing this with me! It made me smile. I’m glad that I could help! XOXO
Rosie I have question. If I use flour instead of cornstarch word I use vall purpose is self rising flour. I have both all purpose and self rising flour. I don’t keep cornstarch but I buy a box. Is there particular branch you recommend.
Hey Veronica! If you use flour, use regular all purpose flour. Any brand should do 🙂
Hi Rosie I just made these neckbone’s and they are the best neck bones that I have eating thus far, I want to personally thank you for this recipe I had a taste for them on last week went to the meeting house this morning to pick them up put them in the pressure cooker hour later they were ready thanks again the only difference I pulled off the first boil and I added
Coconut oil and fresh garlic and two hole onions I put them in a food processor
Hi there! I’m glad that you liked the recipe! XOXO
These sound so good wonder how long to cook in a pressure cooker.
I just put my neck bones in my crockpot. I can’t wait until they are done. Your recipe sound so delicious!
Thanks For trying my recipe Ebonie
I am so trying this tomorrow 🙂 Did you ever try adding potatoes ?
Hi Glenda! No, I never use potatoes. However, It should be fine 🙂
HI, new to your site…this was first pin this to pop up on Pinterest when I typed in neck bones in a crockpot. I got all my ingredients ready and I have to leave the house Arne 12pm and would like dinner ready when i get back around 530. Can I cook them on low for 8 hours? THANKS!
Hi Brittany! Yes, that should work 🙂
Made this today and it was a huge hit. Thank you for sharing! Will definitely try your other recipes!!!
Thanks for trying Vicky!
Rosie
Your the best. I was raised on Soul Food, didn’t know it as such, we just called it Country Cooking. Cook whats’s available, and eat what’s cooked. I have used many of your recipes and will continue to do so, their homegrown and built with love…I’m especially fond of neck bones and Pigs feet and will pass up steak for either, especially if there are side orders of corn bread, black eye peas, rice, and greens. Thank YOU
Hi Robert! I’m glad that you like my recipes!! XOXO
Delicious!! I have been looking for a neckbone recipe that is similar to my childhood memories. This surpassed all. I cooked them on top of the stove and they still came out just right. Thank you.
Rosie,
It came out absolutely delicious. I used smoked neck bones and I omitted the applie cider vinegar. I used sea salt instead and added fresh carrots, potatoes, green beans and a green bell pepper. I also added complete seasoning and a little more garlic powder and pepper. It was amazing!! My husband and I finished our plates so fast I had to ask… “ Did I fix us both enough?” Lol! We absolutely loved it. This recipe will be on repeat in our household for sure.
Will beef broth work as well
Sure!
Can I use beef neck bones for this recipe?
Yes you can!
Really delicious and yummy recipe so tasty you have a great knowledge for making this dish very well explained and detailed instruction given on how to make good work and good luck Thanks for sharing wonderful recipe.

Thanks for trying my recipe!
Can I do this same recipe on top of the stove instead of a crockpot .. I don’t currently own a crockpot
Yes, you can 🙂
I made your recipe tonight! Fantastic!! I’m from up north, but now live in Alabama where my husband was born & raised. Of course he loves southern food. He took his first bite and said “Girl, these will make you hurt yourself….what you talking bout!!! LOL!! They were a hit!! I served with rice & that yummy gravy, butter beans, greens & cornbread! I
Thank you for sharing!! I’m pretty proud of myself!!
Made this recipe a few times…it’s a hit. Thank you
I made these Soul Food Style Pork Neck Bones tonight and they are slap your mamma good!!!! This will be a repeat dish in my house! Thank you Rosie!!!!
If I want to make this recipe in my Instant Pot, how long should I cook it for? Your recipe calls for 4 hours.
Thank yoU!
Try 45 minutes 😉
Foolproof recipe. I wan not a big fan of neckbones but I’m now converted. My mom is 85 years old, from Alabama and she says these are the best she’s EVER tasted! I followed the recipe to the letter twice.
Rosie
My wife doesn’t know it but I’m in love with you. I have commented on you and your recipes before, have tried many, and read many others. My favorites are the Great Soul Food dishes created from the less desirable portions of the animal, i.e. Pigs feet, neckbone etc. I have used this recipe several times with amazing results each time. I do add some chopped green and red bell peppers to your ingredients. I’m not a great cook. But give me a slow cooker and a recipe and I’m good to go
So glad that you like my recipes!! Thanks for using them.
Those neck bones were delicious, I’ve made them several times. BRAVO
Excellent recipe and neckbones came out amazing! My only personal add to the recipe was 1tbsp of Lawry’s and a few red pepper flakes for a little added spice. They were delicious! Thank you as this is now my go-to neckbones recipe
Well this old canadian gal had never heard of pork neck bones, let alone eaten one. I won’t tell you how I can to have 5 lbs of them in my fridge, but thought I would google it anyway, and decided on this recipe. It was a gift from the heavens! Today I’m making my second batch with a few tweaks, but I won’t ever forget the first time I ate these. I couldn’t get enough! Who knew? (well I guess you did! lol ). 5 out 5 stars and a big virtual hug to you!!
Thanks for trying my recipe!
This was absolutely delicious. I cooked them on the stove top. Will definitely be making them again. Thank you for a great recipe.
9/24/2020… I made these and they were awesome….. As always u make it easy to take us ole schoolers down through there! Love your recipes….
Thank you so much!
Great recipe!! I was skeptic at first with the cornstarch, I added a little more water as it was cooking but not much more, it turned out DELICIOUS! I made some white rice for all the delicious gravy it made….YUMMY!!
Bought these by accident didn’t read and thought they were pork shoulder chunks but decided I could figure something out but remained so skeptical even while they were cooking. I was amazed!!! They were absolutely delicious!!! Followed the recipe almost exactly just used a little less spices since had a little less neck bones. Served with mashed potatoes and lima beans.
Absolutely delicious! Made some rice for the gravy.
I have never eaten or cooked neck bones before. This recipe is delicious. I WILL be making this again. So easy one pot meal to make, I made boil in bag rice. Easy cleanup.
Ohhhhhh all I can say is; my family love it, my tummy thought it had died and went to heaven…Thank you for this wonderful recipe..
I made this recipe once before, followed it exactly and it was delicious! Making it again now and the neck bones smell so good I can’t stand it. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Did u just use white rice or was it like a seasoned rice?
Hi Kate! I used brown jasmine rice.
I look up recipes all the time but I’ve never left a comment before. This dish turned out THAT good. I dare say it’s the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten. I put it over rice, stovetop stuffing, and black beans. OMG it’s so effing good!!!!! I followed the recipe exactly except that I seared the necks on both sides on a cast iron first, threw them in the slow cooker, and then quickly sautéed the onions in the same cast iron pot. I used homemade chicken broth, and cooked on high for like 4.5 hours and then on low for an extra hour or so. AMAZING. My 3 year old loved it also. Thank you for sharing this recipe
I feel so special! Thanks so much trying my recipe, and for leaving a comment!
I tried this recipe in my InstaPot. Turned out GREAT! I pressure cooked for about 15 minutes first and then left on slow cooker for about 2 hours. I did add celery (chopped leaves).
I sell forest raised pork in the Chicagoland area, and this is among my daughter’s favorite recipes! The only problem is my wife (and customers) wants to use neck bones for tomato pasta sauce, but it’s great to have another option. Great recipe for an underappreciated, wallet friendly, cut of meat. Thank you!
Hi Josh! Thanks so much for trying my recipe. Check out my Neck Bones & Potato Recipe is you haven’t already.
61 yrs old..was in my 20s 1st time i ever had pork neck bones and only had them in spaghetti sauce. I picked 3 up at local butcher and thought theres gotta be something else i can do with them. Didnt wanna make soup…and alas I landed on this recipe. Only thing i didnt have was corn starch but reading thru comments i “went for it” using flour as substitute and making on top of the stove. Grant it I only had 1.25 lbs but…OH HOW I WISH I HAD AT LEAST 3 MORE LBS!
This is absolutely, 100% DELICIOUS!
Ive had a bottle of apple cider vinegar in my cupboard for heck a very long time (i hate the taste of vinegar) but listened/watched the video and followed the recipe pretty much to a T (being shy 3# i kinda guesstimated on spice measurements)
I cant wait to start looking thru and trying more of YOUR recipes..now that my daughter flew this Mommas nest been a very long time since ive taken time to cook..really cook for just myself let alone try something new.
Sorry for how long this comment is but I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW DELICIOUS THESE WERE! Thank you again..future comments hopefully will be shorter. Looking forward to making them for my daughter and her family (course i have to look for your recipe on collard greens another NEW for me. Bless you … from this 61 yr old looking forward to cooking again!
Hi Yvette! I’m so glad that you tried, and loved my recipe!! XOXO
I had bought some neckbones for my daughter and her and her husband turned their nose up at them so I brought them home and looked up your recipe and I fixed it. It was so good. Oh my goodness it was better than anything I have have had.made rice and greens to go with it with cornbread. Thank you so much I never cooked them before but they came out perfect they fell apart.
After a year of having this in my rotation, I just thought I’d finally stop by to leave a review. This recipe is PHENOMENAL. I use beef neck bones and it turns out amazing each time. So tasty, leaves us coming back for seconds and thirds! Thank you!
I wanted something different so I’m trying your recipe. Wish me luck.
Keep me posted 🙂
I can not wait to try this!! Making this for my fiancé birthday, he loves southern foods and I’m gonna make it with your corn bread!
That sounds like a darn good supper! Enjoy hun!
Made this last night and turned out soo amazing! Hubby said it’s to be made again! He loves his soul southern foods… I always come to your website for meals! Thank you
These came out so delicious. Thank you.
I got a whole hog and didn’t know what to do with the neck bones. This recipe was easy and it turned out delicious. Thank you.
I’ve been using this recipe for about 2-3 years and it is my favorite one.
Can this be down on low?
Hi Deb. Absolutely!
Cooked them yesterday. It was my first time cooking neck bones. They were phenomenal! Thank you for sharing your recipe
Will this recipe work on beef neck bones too? Can’t remember if I bought beef or pork lol
You can definitely use beef neck bones. XOXO
Cooked on high for 4 hours and came out Soo soft. Meat falling off on some pieces, can easily cut with a spoon. Sooo good! I was worried i was gunna mess up and they come out like rubber or something. I think I used too much corn starch or too little water cuz the liquid in my crock pot is much thicker than yours in the video but I’m gunna make some potatoes to go with this. NGL I was a little horrified when I was cleaning the pork but worth it. Will definitely make again.
Can you use celery instead of onions in this recipe?
If you’re a celery fan, you can definitely do that.
Hi Rosie what are some good side’s that goes with smoked neck bones outside of beans
Hi thee El. You can do green beans and potatoes, potato salad and greens, fried cabbage and cornbread, the list goes on! XOXO
The best smothered neckbone recipe. Luv it! Thanks.
Ms. Rosie,
Would not change a thing! So good and very comforting.
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Rosie I am a big fan of yours I have both of your books use your Recipes all the time ,I will try the neck bones and the turkey necks ,never cooked them that way Martha I .Hobson
I will be trying this recipe for my dinner tomorrow….. Thanks.
I have a package of mixed dry leguens Would like to know if I can make a bean soup with neck bone and show me how.
Hi Cora. I personally prefer smoked neck bones with my bean soup. I will work on a recipe to upload soon.
can’t wait to try neck bone recipe.
I made these for my husband and he loved them. I want to double the recipe and add them to thanksgiving. How much time do you think double will take in the crockpot?
What size slow cooker are you using? If it’s big enough for everything to comfortable fit, maybe just add one more hour to the cooking.
Good recipe. Needs red pepper flakes in my opinion,
That looks very good
This is an awesome recipe. I wasn’t sure I could do it, but the instructions were very easy to read and follow. The meal was delicious. I’m sure I’m not the best around, but here I am at 78 years young becoming a soul food cook. Thank you, Rosie.
